    "Archaeological Tree"

On November 11-12, the annual scientific conference "Archaeological Tree" will be held at the Island-Town Sviyazhsk Museum-Reserve.

More than 40 participants - Russian and foreign (Denmark, Germany, Italy, etc.) scientists will be joining to share their experience of studying the "wet" cultural layer*, features of conservation of organic finds, ways of monitoring the condition of archaeological trees in museum storage.

*The "wet" cultural layer is a rarity in archaeology. Organic items – wood, leather, wool, bast, etc. they are preserved due to the abundant moisture content in the layer, and therefore the lack of oxygen. The exposition of the Museum of the archaeological tree "Tatarskaya Slobodka" in Sviyazhsk is based on objects found in the "wet" cultural layer. Its thickness was more than 3 meters, the area was 5 hectares.

The conference "Archaeological Tree" is held as part of a comprehensive scientific and restoration event to ensure the preservation of museum exhibits located within the territory of objects included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
