VII International Cultural and Tourist Forum "Siber Il", 29 June-1 July 2017

On 29 June 1 - July 2017, ICOM Russia will hold the museum section "Cultural networks and branding of territories" within the VII International cultural and tourist forum “Historical and cultural heritage as a resource for social and cultural development” – Siber Il.

    Agenda

Starting from the end of the twentieth century, the largest international organizations in the field of culture (UNESCO, Council of Europe etc.) have emphasized the role of networking for the development of culture, economics and society. Cultural networks in a broad sense designate a system of links between cultural institutions, which implies consolidation of efforts and cooperation for the achievement of common goals. Such partner networks allow solving both internal tasks, promoting the development of cultural institutions and strengthening the sector itself, as well as external ones, expanding access to culture, art and creative activity for different groups of the society. Experimental ideas and innovations, largely determining the success of cultural institutions, carry risks, which not everyone can overcome alone. The partnership of professional organizations allows testing, sharing, learning and jointly coping with regional and global challenges.

Museums are increasingly becoming participants of cultural networks and associations, seeking to consolidate forces and resources with other organizations and like-minded experts. The existence of such networks at the local level helps in building relationships with local authorities and business, including in the search for funding.

By creating a network, regional museums can develop common marketing strategies, souvenir product line and joint tourist products – all this is investment in the birth and maintenance of a recognizable regional brand.
